Summary: | The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the ongoing energy transition in Nunavut, Yukon and the Northwest Territories towards modern energy sources. It begins briefly with Canada's climate policy and the Liberal Party's support for a clean energy transformation as a way of dealing with the impact of climate change on the environment and people of the North. The text then focuses on the energy and climate strategies of the three territories. The different ways all territorial governments have chosen to move towards renewable energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are also analyzed. Finally, the article examines how remote and Indigenous communities in the territories are involved in the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy sources. |
