Kinematografia islandzka stanowi fenomen niepowtarzalny na tle kina światowego. Choć uznawana za najmłodszą w Europie zdołała, szczególnie w ostatnich latach, zyskać wyjątkową renomę. Dominantą filmów powstałych po okresie zwanym Wiosną Filmową jest osobliwe wykorzystanie natury Islandii. Twórcy tacy jak Dagur Kári, Fridrik Thor Fridriksson, Hilmar Oddsson, czy Rúnar Rúnarsson ze specyfiki przyrody ich kraju uczynili unikalny środek filmowego wyrazu. W dziełach tychże autorów islandzki krajobraz nie stanowi jedynie tła wydarzeń, lecz jest ich nieodłącznym komponentem. Współtworzy dramaturgię filmów, napędza fabułę, determinuje losy bohaterów, stanowi nośnik emocji. Bliska więź artystów z naturą wynika także z dystynktywnego folkloru Islandii, którego obecność jest niezwykle istotna w każdym z omówionych obrazów. Celem niniejszej pracy jest wskazanie jak istotną rolę we współczesnej kinematografii islandzkiej odgrywa natura oraz jaki ma wpływ na poetykę poszczególnych filmów. Icelandic cinematography is an inimitable phenomenon in comparison to the world cinema. Although it is considered to be the youngest in Europe, it managed, especially in recent years, to gain extraordinary reputation. A dominant feature of the films made after the period of Icelandic Film Spring is in particular use of nature. Directors such as Dagur Kári, Fridrik Thor Fridriksson, Hilmar Oddsson or Rúnar Rúnarsson used a character of nature as a uniqe film device. In their films Icelandic landscape is not only a background of the events but also their inherent element. It cocreates film’s dramaturgy, powers the plot, determines protagonist’s fate, contains the emotional load. A close bond between artists and nature is determined also by distinctive folklore of Iceland, presence of which is crucial in all of the analysed pictures. The purpose of present study is to prove how significant is the function of nature in modern Icelandic cinema and what impact it has on the poetics of particular films.
