Summary:The aim of this thesis was to present an interpretation of the paleoenvironment of the Parathetys in the western area of the Carpathian Foredeep during the Middle Miocene (Lower Badenian). The research conducted for this thesis was based on a taxonomic and quantitative analysis of planktonic foraminifera collected from the Skawina Beds. Nine taxonomic units of the two superfamilies have been identified, and then categorised into four ecological groups, based on the environmental requirements of the present-day planktonic foraminifera. Percentage analysis of thermophile and cryophile taxa, together with the taxonomic diversity of the association was used to establish the estimated temperature of the pelagic waters. Considering the percentage fluctuations of the plankton in the association of foraminifera coefficient (P/B) as well as the percentage of taxa dwelling in deeper layers of the epipelagial, depth of the oceanic basin could be estimated. The analysis shows that the oceanic waters in the western area of the Carpathian Foredeep during the Lower Badenian were an environment favourable for the thermophile planktonic foraminifera. Their set suggests an outer continental shelf environment, as well as upper continental slope environment, with water temperature of about 20°C. Podstawę badawczą stanowiła analiza taksonomiczna i ilościowa otwornic planktonicznych. Badany materiał pochodził z utworów zaliczanych do warstw skawińskich. Zidentyfikowano 9 jednostek taksonomicznych z dwóch nadrodzin, które przyporządkowano do czterech grup ekologicznych na podstawie wymagań środowiskowych współczesnych otwornic planktonicznych. Analiza udziału procentowego taksonów ciepło- i zimnolubnych oraz zróżnicowanie składu taksonomicznego fauny otwornic planktonicznych stało się podstawą do wnioskowania o temperaturze zbiornika oceanicznego.
