First record of Lagarodus (Chondrichthyes: Euchondrocephali) from the Carboniferous of Svalbard, Arctic Norway

International audience The rather enigmatic genus Lagarodus is reported for the first time from the Bashkirian of Svalbard. Lagarodus first appeared in the equatorial region during the Tournaisian and then extended its geographical distribution to the intertropical zone around the Euramerican continent. The Svalbard discovery hints at the possibility that the northern species was different from the southern one.
