Linguistic Biodiversity, Natural Biodiversity and Traditional Ecological Knowledge: a Common Extinction. Questioning the Adaptive Capacities of Indigenous Peoples from Arctic and Sub-Arctic Regions
International audience This paper is based on conceptual framework structured around biocultural diversity theories. It exposes the different changes that affect Arctic and sub-Arctic socio-ecosystems. The article demonstrates that all indigenous cosmologies are affected by these changes. More than...

International audience This paper is based on conceptual framework structured around biocultural diversity theories. It exposes the different changes that affect Arctic and sub-Arctic socio-ecosystems. The article demonstrates that all indigenous cosmologies are affected by these changes. More than other societies, local indigenous communities are subject to internal and external pressures, both of anthropogenic and natural origin. However, these communities are also often the best equipped to fight change thanks to their capacities, which should be understood today. Thus, fighting against the erosion of natural biodiversity or halting the decrease in linguistic diversity, ultimately contributes to the preservation of a plurality of cosmologies, capable of accompanying the changes in progress. В ... |
