International audience Although the Inuit numeration system has no structural limits, its actual use is limited to concrete situations where the quantities involved are small. In Inuktitut (Inuit dialects of the Canadian Eastern Arctic), this system has traditionally had very little use in measuring the passage of time. As a result of contact with Westerners, the situation has partially changed, as shown by the expression of the days of the week and the time of the day. This article presents the essential data relevant to the dialect of Nunavik (Arctic Quebec). Bien que le système de numération inuit n’ait pas de limite structurelle, son utilisation effective se cantonne à des situations concrètes où les quantités en jeu sont faibles. En inuktitut (dialectes inuit de l’Arctique oriental canadien), ce système s’emploie traditionnellement très peu pour mesurer le temps qui passe. Sous l’effet des contacts avec les Occidentaux, la situation a partiellement changé, comme le montre l’expression des jours de la semaine et de l’heure. Cet article présente l’essentiel des données pertinentes pour le dialecte du Nunavik (Arctique québécois).
