As a distinct group, they have long remained hidden from the scientific community and have never been politically recognized as such. From an emic point of view, they have no doubt of their own existence, but present circumstances pose a powerful threat to their physical existence. Consequently, they are attempting to find instruments to protect their identity and overcome current challenges with as few scars as possible. Is their oral tradition helping them to achieve this goal? The aim of this article is to unravel this complex question, mainly from an emic point of view.
