Akustisk mengdemåling av sei, kysttorsk og ungsild: Finnmark – Møre Hausten 2005

An acoustic survey to obtain indices of abundance and estimates of length and weight at age of saithe and coastal cod north of 62º north has been carried out annually in October-November, since 1985 for saithe and since 1995 for coastal cod. In 2003 the former saithe survey, the coastal survey and the main parts of the 0-group herring and sprat survey in the fjords north of Bodø were combined to one investigation. The main results in 2005 were: • the temperature was in most areas above both the 2004 level and the 1997-2004 average • total echo abundance of saithe decreased by about 30 % compared to 2004 and is the third lowest in the time series since 1997, at about the same level as in 2002-2003 and almost 50 % below the 1998 level • 3 year old saithe (2002 year class) was most abundant and the index is above the average for 1992-2004 • the indices of 4 and 5 year old saithe are much lower than in 2004 and only about half of the average for 1992-2004 • the indices for 6 year old and older saithe are a little lower than in 2004, but close to the 1992-2004 average • length and weight at age are about as in the previous years • a decrease in indices of coastal cod were observed for all age groups in areas north of Lofoten, and an increase in areas south of Lofoten compared to 2004 • the total indices are for most age groups the lowest in the time series back to 1995 • there are no signs of improved recruitment • the acoustic spawning biomass index decreased compared to 2004 and is the lowest observed in the time series, barely 20 % of the 1995 level • for the youngest age groups length and weight at age are about at the average of the previous years, while the figures for the oldest are lower than the average • it should be pointed out that the stock of coastal cod is for the time being at such a low level that the uncertainty in acoustic abundance estimation is relatively high. Norsk: Eit akustisk tokt med sikte på å framskaffa indeksar for talet på fisk og data over lengde og vekt av kvar aldersgruppe av sei og kysttorsk nord for 62º nord er gjennomført årleg i oktober-november, sidan 1985 for sei og sidan 1995 for kysttorsk. I 2003 vart det tidlegare seitoktet, kysttoktet og dei viktigaste delane av 0-gruppe sild og brislingtoktet på fjordane nord for Bodø slegne saman til ei undersøking. Resultat for 2005 viser: • temperaturen var i dei fleste områda over 2004-nivået og snittet for 1997-2004 • registrert ekkomengde av sei gjekk ned med vel 30 % i høve til 2004 og er den tredje lågaste i tidsserien sidan 1997, omlag på same nivå som i 2002-2003 og nesten 50 % under 1998 nivå • 3 år gamal sei (2002 årsklassen) var mest talrik og indeksen er over snittet for 1992-2004 • indeksane for 4 og 5 år gamal sei er mykje lågare enn i 2004 og berre om lag det halve av gjennomsnittet for 1992-2004 • indeksane for 6 år gamal og eldre sei er litt lågare enn i 2004, men nokså like snittet for 1992-2004 • lengde og vekt ved alder er om lag som i føregåande år • det var ein nedgang i kysttorsk-indeksane for alle aldersgrupper i områda frå og med Lofoten og nordover, og ein auke i områda sør for Lofoten samanlikna med 2004 • totalindeksane er for dei fleste aldersgrupper det lågaste som er registert i tidsserien tilbake til 1995 • det er ingen teikn på betre rekruttering • den akustiske gytebestandsindeksen minka i høve til 2004 og er den lågast observerte i tidsserien, knapt 20 % av 1995 nivå • for dei yngste aldersgruppene er både lengde og vekt om lag som gjennomsnittet for dei føregåande åra før, medan tala for dei eldste er noko lågare enn gjennomsnittet • det må understrekast at bestanden av kysttorsk for tida er så låg at uvissa i utrekningane er etter måten høg.
