Nevertheless, the method could be used to know the level of discrepancies between the STATLANT and the estimation made based on the Scientific Observers CPUEs in some cases. Results show that the discrepancies between the estimations made base on the scientific observers CPUEs and the STATLANT figures present a decreased trend in time, being around the 50% more in the last two years. This seems to be an important improvement in the quality of the STATLANT figures in the last years compare with the years before. It is proposed to use the method explain in this paper to estimate catches in the 2011-2014 period where the discrepancies where bigger and used the official NAFO information (STATLANT, DCR, haul by haul data) for 2015 where the discrepancies seems to be smaller.
