Description
Summary:This paper gives an overview of the following four papers covering negation in Sakha(Turkic), Yukaghir (Isolate), Alutor, and Itelmen (Chukch-Kamchatkan). The papers aim to discuss the diversity of negative constructions in these languages of Northeast Eurasia from a typological perspective. The following points are discussed: the types of negative morphemes (morphological or syntactic, double negative markers, periphrastic negative forms, etc.) used in the respective languages, the number of negative morpheme tokens and their uses, the types of negative constructions (symmetric or asymmetric), and the types of asymmetric negations (constructional or paradigmatic; the categories involved in the paradigmatic asymmetry are also considered).
