There is a considerable quantity of data available on the Icelandic cod stock, but in the sequence between 1951 and 1954 there is a gap. An attempt has been made to bridge the gap assuming a constant rate of exploitation. Estimates of exploitation rate were then extended back from those published in the ICES' North-Western Working Group report. An attempt was made to distinguish between year classes of Icelandic and Greenland origin and with estimates of weight a series of stock/recruitment curves was derived. The time series of year classes was used to study the recent effects of climatic change and their consequences upon the nature of the stock/recruitment relationship.
