However, the sharp decline of the ice concentration in the Arctic creates a new geopolitical reality. This research tests the hypothesis, if the shift of power benefits Russia and land forces, against the US and naval forces as well as approaches the international implications of this new geopolitical reality, which involves the geopolitical complexes of the Broader Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean. Το 1944, ο NJ Spykman υποστήριξε ότι οι γεωγραφικοί λόγοι επηρεάζουν την ισχύ και η ίδια η ισχύς είναι απαραίτητο εργαλείο για την επιβίωση ενός έθνους καθώς και για την εξέλιξη του διεθνούς συστήματος. Υπογράμμισε την ανάγκη ανασχέσεως της Ρωσίας στη Heartland. Ανέφερε ότι: «Όποιος ελέγχει τον Rimland ελέγχει την Ευρασία, όποιος ελέγχει την Ευρασία ελέγχει τη τύχη του κόσμου».
