| Summary: | There is no consensus on the taxonomy of Uralic, and different models exist even for the well-studied western branches of the family. Häkkinen’s (2007, 2009) idea that Saami, Finnic and Mordvin form a genealogical node (“West Uralic”), has received surprisingly wide acceptance in recent literature on linguistics as well as prehistory, even though the postulation of West Uralic is based on rather few arguments. In this poster we discuss the alleged phonological innovations and refute their probative value. |
