Summary: | Human consumptive uses of the landscape have created a devastating effect on ecosystems. The logging era in Michigan removed thousands of acres of old growth forests fragmenting wildlife habitat. These effects are seen in Missaukee County Michigan where species dependent on forest ecosystems have declined. I hypothesize that by re-establishing more historically natural conditions to the landscape, plants and animal species such as the American marten (Martes americana) will increase. Creating an adaptive management plan for the preservation of the American marten will help preserve a functioning ecosystem for the benefit of a diversity of plant and wildlife species |
