Description
Summary:The PWING project (study of dynamical variation of Particles and Waves in the INner magnetosphere using Ground-based network observations, 2016-2022) operates all-sky airglow/aurora imagers, 64-Hz sampled induction magnetometers, 40-kHz VLF receivers, and 64-Hz riometers at 8 stations at magnetic latitudes of ~60 degree around the north-pole. The PWING stations cover longitudinal variation of aurora and electromagnetic disturbances in the inner magnetosphere. In this presentation, we review recent three results obtained by this project. Nakamura et al. (JGR, 2021; 2022) identified electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves and plasma and electromagnetic field structures using the Van Allen Probes satellites in association with the isolated proton auroras at subauroral latitudes. Based on the multi-point network observations at subauroral latitudes, Liu et al. (JGR, 2022) have reported a statistical study of longitudinal extent of Pc1 geomagnetic pulsations which corresponds to the EMIC waves in the inner magnetosphere. Kawai et al. (JGR, 2021; 2022) identified electric field and plasma density variations in the inner magnetosphere observed by the Arase satellite in association with medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) identified by ground-based airglow imagers.
