APO 512 c/o Postmaster, NYC 29 January 1944 #32 Dear Bob and Claudine, Received #45 from you, Claudine, dated the 16th. and your three part letter of the 17th. Bob, this evening. I had in the same delivery, four more including one from Theinert Feige. He has been stationed in Newfoundland, but is now back in the States. He said he met a man in the Seabees by the name of Rockwell who visited at Townsends. Would this be Rockhill? They met at Camp Endicott. I don�t know where that is located. Both he and Vivian had leaves over the Holidays, so that made it pretty nice for the family. Wilmer�s mail has to come from Italy to Africa, I imagine, and apparently the service across isn�t any too good as yet. The last letter I received from him too two weeks to come across. He probably isn�t as near a post office as he and I have been over here, either. I read in the Herald that Major Kuder had been transferred overseas. I was wonder- ing if it might be to someplace around here. I should have liked he and Captain Henard to meet, for I know they both would have enjoyed it, but you say he went to England. Well, maybe we�ll run into one another someplace in Europe one of these days. Sorry to hear about Bess� mother. She was pretty well advanced in age, wasn�t she? I guess if Jerome is headed for the west coast, he�ll be down after the Japs. I didn�t suppose it took long for money to be transferred across, but I see that the money I sent December first didn�t arrive till the 28th. No doubt by this time you have received what I sent on January first. I may not send any home for a while. Think I�ll start a Government savings account. They pay 4% interest. I know the interruptions you have, Bob, particularly in the skating season. I�m certainly glad to hear you had such a good year and so much better than last. Hope it keeps up. On this cigar business, it sounds as tho [sic] I got more of them over here than ...
