I suppose you have heard from Wilmer by now describing his trip up thru [sic] Palestine and the Holy Lands. From the account he wrote me, he and the other two boys must have had an enjoyable furlough. This is a nice pleasant, quiet Sunday afternoon with most everyone asleep or down at the beach. For you folks it means about the end of the summer, with you, Claudine, going back to school in a few days. I hope you have had a good rest this summer and that the duties at school won�t be too heavy for you. I would suppose that it would be somewhat easier than the past few years. You speak of the shore being crowded this year by vacationists who are staying longer than in other summers. I have heard the same thing from other people, also th [sic] that conditions are the same in the mountain resorts. I read that the Government has turned about 35 Atlantic City hotels back to their owners. I suppose they are in full swing by now. From your report, the E.C.A. seems to be flourishing. I had a letter from Theinert Feige several days ago in which he says that a great many of the cottages along the creek are occupied by families form Fort Dix. He says his mother manages to get up there quite often, but I guess it�s rather lonely for her with both Theinert and Vivian away. You know he is an Ensign in the Navy and from what he said in his letter, I judge him to be stationed in Iceland. I sent you a card yesterday, telling you to send the binoculars along in spite of t [sic] the fact you can�t insure them. It seems strange that articles coming over here cannot be in- sured, while articles that we send home can be. Ask Joe Wolfram if he has the latest dope on it. At any rate, I�ll take a chance on their safe arrival. Please pack them very securely and get them off as soon as possible. It seems ...
