Became president of one of Atlanta s foremost companies dealing in musical instruments and compositions: Phillips & Crew. Recalled that the classes were hard, only 13 out of 75 students graduated. After graduation he intended to go north to study architecture, but circumstances made it necessary to start work in Atlanta. He recalls that when the shops burnt down the students had to make up 200 extra hours during vacation, holidays and their spare time. Harvey was at Tech when General Leonard Wood was learning his "stuff" at Fort McPherson. It was at that time that the future general took to football where he was a person of no mean physical ability. He could drag several of his opponents up the field and when they eventually all dropped off of exhaustion he calmly stepped across the goal line. At that time there was a game against Georgia in Athens and Wood saw Tech through to victory. When Georgia fans voiced their disapproval a "free for all" ensued. "And it was some scrap," says Harvey.
