The Russia-Ukraine war has clearly put the adoption of appropriate measures to further strengthen security on NATO's agenda. In the conditions of this ongoing war, the question of expanding the Transatlantic Alliance was raised. Two countries, Finland and Sweden, which have maintained military neutrality until now, have expressed their desire to join NATO. Turkey was against it. The Turkish president used as an argu­ment against Finland and Sweden joining NATO that he accused these countries of supporting terrorism. But Turkey soon changed its position, supported the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO and even signed an agreement with these countries. თურქეთი ახლო აღმოსავლეთის რეგიონის ნატოს ერთა­დ­ე­­რთი წევრი ქვეყანაა, რომე­ლიც აქტიურად მონაწილეობს მის ყვე­ლა მისიაში. რუსეთ-უკრაინის ომმა ნატოს დღის წესრ­იგში მკ­ა­ფიოდ დააყენა უსაფრთხოების უფრო მეტად გაძლიე­რე­ბის­ა­თ­ვის სათანადო ზომების მიღება. ამ მიმდინარე ომის პირ­ო­ბებში და­ისვა ჩრდილოატლანტიკური ალიანსის გაფართ­ო­ების საკი­თხი. ორმა ქვეყანამ, ფინეთმა და შვედეთმა, რომლებიც აქამდე სამხედრო ნეიტრ­ალ­იტეტს ინარჩუნებდნენ, ნატოში გაწევრ­იან­ების სურვილი გამოთქვეს. ამისი წინაა­ღმდეგი იყო თურქეთი. ფინეთის და შვედეთის ნატოში გაწევრიანების წინააღ­მ­დეგ თურქეთის პრეზიდენტი არგ­უმენტად იყენებდა იმას, რომ ამ ქვეყნებს ბრალს ტერორიზმის ხელის შეწყობაში სდებდა. მაგ­რამ თურქეთმა პოზიცია მალე შეცვალა, ფინეთის და შვედეთის ნატოს წევრობას მხარ­დაჭერა გამოუცხადა და ამ ქვეყნებთან ხელ­შეკრულებაც კი გააფორმა.
