Ce texte tient lieu d’introduction à un manuscrit portant sur cinquante-deux versions d’un récit indien recueillies entre 1637 et 1978, sur un vaste territoire s’étendant du Labrador aux Territoires du Nord-Ouest et au Montana. Plutôt que de faire table rase de tout ce qui fut écrit au sujet de ce récit en particulier, et de la mythologie en général, pour ensuite peut-être déclarer forfait, l’ouvrage en question vise à permettre à ce savoir de se dilater au-delà des contraintes inhérentes à sa propre instauration. This text serves as an introduction to a manuscript about fifty-two versions of Indian accounts on Tshakapesh gathered between 1637 and 1978 in a vast territory extending from Labrador to the Northwest Territories and to Montana. It would serve no purpose to obliterate all that was written on these particular narratives or on mythology in general and to finally abandon the project. On the contrary the manuscript permits these narratives to rise above certain restraints.
