Si la relation a été ponctuée de conflits et d’inégalités, elle a toutefois mené les partenaires à se reconnaître mutuellement et à s’exprimer sur la place qu’occupe la rivière dans les liens de sociabilité, les échanges économiques et les récits identitaires de chaque peuple. Dans le contexte d’une collaboration qui se serait idéalement accrue depuis La Paix des braves, ce travail a pour but d’explorer la pertinence de l’histoire environnementale comme outil d’harmonisation interculturelle entre les territorialités autochtone et eurogène. En comparant deux sites clés le long de la rivière La Grande (Uupichun et LG-2), leur production et leur transformation à travers le temps grâce au travail humain, je propose de concevoir l’historique environnemental du Québec dans une perspective d’échange et de continuité Nord-Sud. During the 1970s, the transformation of the La Grande River into a large scale hydroelectric complex forced the Crees and the Québécois to enter into a dialogue concerning the management of this waterway and its becoming. If this relationship has been punctuated by conflicts and inequalities, it has, nevertheless, brought the partners to acknowledge each other and to express themselves about the place of the river in their respective social organisation, economic exchanges and identity. In a context where new collaborations are being sought since the signing of the Peace of the Braves agreement, this paper explores the pertinence of environmental history as a tool of intercultural harmonisation between Native and European territorialities. By identifying two key sites on the La Grande river (Uupichun and LG-2), as well as their production and transformation through time thanks to human labour, I propose to view Quebec's environmental history in a perspective of exchange and continuity between North and South.
