The AnnouncementRecently, in the collection of library of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Sciences in Warsaw, has been discovered the map, Carte de la Mer Orientaldu Nordentreles Coste de l’amerique, Occidentale et celles de la Tartarie Orientale, aveclesIs le Nouvellemendecouvertdedié a Monseigneur le duc D’aiguillon Paire de France Ministre et Secretaire d’Etat par M. maurice Auguste de Benÿowszkÿ 1772, drawn probably by Maurice Augustus Beniowski. The manuscript shows the famous Maurice Beniowski’s escape route with a group of other people from Kamchatka in 1771, on the Russian ship St. Peter and Paul which has been kidnapped by them. The route led from Bolszerieck, shown on the map as Bolscha up to the Chinese port of Guangzhou. The relation from the journey described by Beniowski in ‘Memoirs9’, in large part, has been and still is recognized by many scholars, as the author’s confabulation. Found map, is a confirmation of the image of the particular stages of peregrinations presented by Beniowski, as well as, Edward Kajdanski’s theses inter alia, about concealment and falsification of Beniowski’s discoveries. Previous research on the map, cannot certainly confirm the authenticity of the Beniowski’s manuscript. However, both the paper of the document, as well as, the content of the map and the seal of French Republic ‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, support the authenticity of the map. Undoubtedly, a number of detailed studies should be undertaken, among others, in Paris and at the British Library in London, where Beniowski’s other manuscripts are stored, in order to indisputably confirm the authenticity of the map and the date of it’s creation
