ABSTRACT: Shell Oil plans to start exploratory drilling on the North Slope of Alaska in the summer of 2012. This represents an opportunity to highlight issues and/or concerns, to make recommendations on the best path forward to help the CG resolve issues and concerns. One issue of many is how to deploy oil recovery equipment. It most likely will be the deployment of the SORS system from a WLB 225' buoy tender however other equipment will be looked at also. RDC plans to produce a video product to detail the deployment of oil recovery equipment. This video will illustrate the impact that the lack of infrastructure on the North Slope has on CG operations. The oil recovery equipment deployment will be a three day operational exercise with preparation and post deployment activity. These activities will be recorded for later analysis by RDC oil spill staff to aid in project planning. Often during an exercise many things can get overlooked due to the increase in activity all around. This documentation will provide reviewable capture of the activities for after action analysis to insure nothing is missed, allowing the generation of recommendations for R&D work to improve Coast Guard's oil spill capabilities in the Arctic.
