After a decade of high intensity operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Danish Army may be facing a period in which it deploys no forces. At the same time the Danish parliament is increasingly focusing on the North Atlantic, where the protection of Danish territory and interests including Greenland and the Faroe Islands traditionally has been the role of the Danish Navy and Air Force. So what does the future for the Danish Army look like and what are the strategic choices for the Army leadership? This paper will seek to answer these questions, based on the thesis the Danish Army will sooner or later have to give up the combined arms army as a consequence of the available resources .
