The effort explored and demonstrated a variety of commercial oil skimmers, boom capturing, and fire cannon herding equipment in rubble and sheet ice conditions during January 2012 in the Straits of Mackinac on the Great Lakes in northern Michigan. The demonstration produced many valuable lessons learned that are applicable to ice-infested waters within the continental United States and in the Arctic waters of Alaska.
