Description
Summary:This evaluation was requested by the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Environmental Security). The request was based on a telephone conversation between the Native American project manager, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division, Indian Head, MD and the Inupiat community representative. The Inupiat community of the Arctic Slope, Alaska alleged that the past activities of the Department of Defense and other Federal agencies exposed the Inupiat community to environmental contamination and hazards that seriously impacted their health. The Inspector General, DoD, was requested to evaluate those concerns and recommend future actions, if necessary. The concerns addressed radioactivity, toxic contamination and health problems.
