Summary:Atmospheric ice accretions on transmission lines cause increased gravity and wind loads on the lines. In regions subject to icing conditions, transmission line design must take these loads into account. This report describes a numerical model for determining the accretion of ice on transmission lines. The eccentric ice load causes a gradual rotation of the flexible conductor, which affects the shape and size of the accretion. The sensitivity of the gravity and wind load on the conductor to both atmospheric and structural variables is examined.
