Summary: | Extension of the navigation season beyond the traditional dates resulted in complaints of shoreline and dock damage along the navigation channels. Studies of shoreline erosion and structure damage due to navigation in ice along the St. Marys River were undertaken under the authority of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway Navigation Season Extension Study. One of the problems in determining the relative importance of navigation in shoreline erosion and dock damage had been the lack of information on such damages during a navigation-free winter. After the year-round navigation under the Demonstration Program ended, limited navigation was planned during the 1979-80 season was presented in a previous report. This report covers 1980-81 limited navigation season. Keywords: Shipwaves, Propeller wash, Hydraulic effects of ship passage, Shore damage, Structural damage, Damage criteria, Sediment transport and shoreline erosion. |
