The L-band radar data used throughout this study were derived from airborne synthetic aperture radar imagery. Radar cross section measurements from a variety of distributed targets are presented, including sea surface, sea ice, agricultural fields and forests. Both HH and VV polarized data are presented. Models are presented which describe the intensity distribution of SAR data as well as describe L-band scattering from rough surfaces. The density distribution models describe the observed SAR intensity distributions quite well, whereas the radar scattering models in some cases overpredict the SAR-observed values.
