Physical Chemical and in-situ CTD (Conductivity/Temperature/Depth) Data from the Ajax Expedition in the South Atlantic Ocean.

This data report presents hydrographic and CTD data collected aboard the RV Knorr on Ajax Expedition Leg I, Abidjan, Ivory Coast to Cape Town, South Africa, and on Leg II, Cape Town to Punta Arenas, Chile. The expedition objectives were to provide data on the general circulation of the South Atlanti...

The expedition objectives were to provide data on the general circulation of the South Atlantic, Weddell Gyre and the Scotia Sea. A line of hydrographic stations, with sampling from the surface to the bottom on most stations, was occupied along the Greenwich meridian from the coast of Africa at 5 deg N to the Antarctic ice edge at 69 deg S, and from there across the Scotia Ridge and through the Scotia Sea. In addition to the hydrographic measurements of temperature, salinity, oxygen and nutrients given in this report, water samples were also collected for analyses of other tracers such as Freons 11 and 12, tritium and helium-3. The hydrographic data were, for the most part, collected and processed at sea. Final adjustments to the hydrographic data and CTD processing were completed after the cruise.
