Updated Position and Ice Velocity for the AIDJEX Manned Camps. Volume 2.

During 1975 and 1976, measurements of sea ice motion were made as part of the Arctic Ice Dynamics Joint Experiment (AIDJEX). In an earlier report (Thorndike and Cheung, 1977), energy at the inertial period was attenuated by approximately 50% due to the choice of a low covariance factor, Q = 100, dur...

In an earlier report (Thorndike and Cheung, 1977), energy at the inertial period was attenuated by approximately 50% due to the choice of a low covariance factor, Q = 100, during Kalman filtering. For oceanographic investigations, the data set proved to be unacceptable particularly in the summer months when there is a significant amount of energy at the inertial period. This report is the result of the reprocessing of the original position data taken from the four manned camps (Caribou, Blue Fox, Snowbird and Big Bear) with a covariance factor Q = 100000. The higher Q allows data of the inertial period and longer to pass through the filter with less than 1 percent attenuation. Because of the large amount of information contained in the data set, it was divided into two parts. This report (Volume 2) provides position and ice velocity from 18 October 1975 to 4 May 1976. Volume 1 (AD A082 211) provides position and ice velocity from 11 April 1975 to 17 October 1975 (Thorndike and Manley, 1980). Prepared in cooperation with Washington Univ., Seattle.
