This report covers the current operational aspects of CONUS and overseas veterinary laboratories that are providing direct support service. All laboratories were surveyed to obtain workload, sample, test, personnel and cost data. Study visits were made to the Health Services Command Laboratories in CONUS, but not to the overseas laboratories. The purpose of the study was to obtain information upon which to base planning and management of the veterinary laboratory system currently and near range. Results of the survey indicate that veterinary laboratories amalgamated with Medical Centers are well managed and providing services responsive to both the Medical Centers needs and the field veterinary requirements. Veterinary laboratories that are remote from their command and support elements (St Louis and Fort McPherson) are experiencing difficulty with management and administrative support requirements.
