Ice observations contained in this report were made under daylight conditions. Poor weather restricted ice observations north of Iceland and southeast of Greenland. Weather was generally good in other areas. The ice pack north of Iceland revealed changes within a period of several days. A NW-SE fracture zone and refrozen polynyas occurred near 77 degrees N, 2 degrees W on separate tracks in the Greenland Sea. Heavy ridging with upended floes imbedded in the ice pack was observed southwest of Franz Josef Land. Icebergs were present north of 79 degrees N in the Barents Sea. Extensive ice coverage noted on BIRDS EYE 2-69 (23 February - 9 March) continued to exist in the Greenland Sea. (Author) See also Rept. no. NOO-IR-69-49 dated May 69, AD-859 547.
