Summary: | The present volume contains in graphical form the sea surface and subsurface temperatures collected in the northern region. The sea surface temperatures are those continuously recorded by MARIA PAOLINA during the area surveys, as well as those gathered by all ships when making bathythermograph (BT) dips. The data are plotted against latitude, longitude, or time, depending upon the particular phase of the survey concerned. Detailed accounts of the phases were presented. The other participating ships (DALRYMPLE, GILLIS, WEATHER SURVEYOR) took the BT dips according to conventional methods. Simultaneously with each BT a bucket sample was taken to measure the sea surface temperature. DALRYMPLE replaced 'bucket temperature' readings for most of the time by the readings of a towed 'Lumby sampler'. Original contains color plates: All DDC reproductions will be in black and white.
