BIRDS EYE 7-68 was a regularly scheduled Arctic Ocean ice reconnaissance mission covering the North American Sector of the Arctic Basin, including the Greenland Sea and Denmark Strait, from 1 to 17 November 1968. Ice observations contained in this report were made under either twilight or moonlight conditions. Large fractures were observed in the vicinity of the North Pole. A well-defined lead was observed northwest of Ellsmere Island. Severe ice conditions observed on BIRDS EYE 3-68 (21 May - 10 June) continued to exist in the southern Greenland Sea. (Author)
