Description
Summary:The purpose of this document is to record and present the information and concepts that have been compiled and developed during the preliminary design of a 20,000 SHP diesel electric icebreaker. This report deals with 2nd cycle preliminary structural design of a polar icebreaker. It concludes the development of dynamic ice loads, a critique on the possibility of fatigue failure, elastic vs. plastic plate design and those structural analyses required to determine preliminary hull scantlings.
