TEMPERATURE, SALINITY, AND DENSITY OF THE WORLD'S SEAS SEA OF OKHOTSK.

The distribution of the temperature, salinity, and density of the semienclosed Sea of Okhotsk is controlled basically by the bottom topography, by the boundary effects of the Pacific Ocean to the southeast, and, to a lesser extent, by the Sea of Japan to the west. Seasonal and regional variations ar...

Seasonal and regional variations are brought about by the forming or melting of ice, the position of the drifting ice pack, and by solar heating, winds, and currents. In addition, year-to-year variations in seasonal intensity occur. For example, during cold years colder water will occupy the southern regions of the sea, as well as increase the severity of ice conditions.
