RESISTANCE OF PLASTICS TO OUTDOOR WEATHERING.

This report presents stress-strain diagrams showing the tensile strength-elongation properties of 12 plastic materials before exposure, after being stored for three years in the dark under standard indoor laboratory conditions, and after outdoor exposures for various periods up to three years. These...

These compositions include: Polyester glass laminate, four different polyethylenes, two different polypropylenes, a phenoxy, a rubber-modified styrene, a fiber-glass-reinforced styrene-acrylonitrile, a fiber-glass-reinforced polycarbonate, and a fiber-glass-reinforced nylon (type 6,6). Exposure data for a temperate climate was developed for all 12 materials. In addition, 6 of the materials were exposed at a wet tropical site, 4 were exposed at a desert site, and 4 were exposed at an arctic site. Changes in tensile strength and elongation (to yield or break) are noted. (Author) Text Arctic Defense Technical Information Center: DTIC Technical Reports database Arctic
