Meteorological and Trafficability Data, U.S.-Canadian Arctic Weather Stations

The purpose of the program was to make an approximate evaluation of the trafficability of Canadian arctic soils at three locations. The data was collected at the joint U.S.-Canadian weather stations located at Alert, Eureka, and Mould Bay, NWT, at approximately one-week intervals beginning when the...

The data was collected at the joint U.S.-Canadian weather stations located at Alert, Eureka, and Mould Bay, NWT, at approximately one-week intervals beginning when the ground began to thaw (usually late June) and continuing until the ground had refrozen (usually late August). Data was obtained at Alert and Mould Bay during 1955 and at Eureka during 1954, 1955, and 1956. They consisted of cone index, soil moisture, and density measurements, meteorological observations, and notes pertinent to the traffic of vehicles in the respective areas.
