Description
Summary:For determining the speed of snow avalanches equations are given which take into consideration the resistance of the air medium, and are proportional to the square of the velocity and to the cross sectional area perpendicular to the direction of motion. The resistance forces which depend on the first power of the velocity are referred not to the avalanche volume, but to the area of its contact with the slope, which will be more correct, since these forces are basically the forces of viscous friction.
