Acoustic ambient noise, transmission loss and reverberation measurements were made in the West Greenland Sea at the edge of the permanent polar ice polar ice pack during the fall of 1971. The data was collect with the assistance of the U. S. Coast Guard, while deployed on one of its oceanographic data collection cruises. The sound sources for transmission loss and reverberation measurements were standard U. S. Navy explosive sound signals. The receiving system consisted of calibrated sonobuoys which were monitored both from helicopters and the Coast Guard icebreaker. (Author)
