Within the program of development of an accurate vlf hyperbolic navigation system for worldwide use by ships and aircraft, NELC conducts propagation studies and develops methods for propagation prediction. The report is an analysis of 10.2- and 13.6-kHz data obtained at Wales, Alaska. It shows that the vlf auroral zone is circularly symmetric about the north pole, and that the area covered may be sensitive to the planetary K-index. Repeatability is found adequate to allow eventual navigational accuracy of about 1 mile. (Author)
