Description
Summary:The components of the heat budget for the Bering Sea are discussed and appraised, comparing the situation with the Sea of Okhotsk in order to characterize the individual features of the Bering Sea heat content. The quantity of solar heat absorbed by the sea is determined on the basis of the known Savinov-Angstrom-Kimball relationships with the aid of Ukraintsev's tables. The quantity expressed in calories per unit surface by months and a year is compared with the quantity of heat obtained as a result of water exchange between the Bering Sea and the Pacific Ocean, taking into consideration the losses and gains of heat caused by evaporation, ice melting and freezing, condensation of water vapor, convective-turbulent heat exchange between the sea and atmosphere and other phenomena. The interrelationships of the components are expressed by formulas defining their significance and amount in the heat balance of the Bering Sea by years, seasons and months.
