The paper describes the distribution of turbulence aloft in the Arctic, especially zones of high turbulence. The study was based on temperature and wind sounding data from 13 Soviet and non-Soviet polar stations for the period 1958-1960 and from drifting stations over a longer period of years. At these stations, the probability of zones of high turbulence was determined for the characteristic months of the seasons: January (winter), April (spring), July (summer) and October (autumn). Data from 7,500 radiosonde launchings were analyzed. An indirect method was used to determine the probability of zones of high turbulence.
