Description
Summary:The paper discusses the results of investigations of seasonal and yearly variations of ice conditions in Labrador Sea and Davis Strait. The term Labrador Sea denotes here the sea area south of 60 degrees N and west of the line connecting the southern tip of Greenland with the eastern tip of Newfoundland Island. The general regularities of the variations have been established and their relationship with hydrometeoroligical processes in the area is pointed out. The correlations that enable us to forecast the iciness and the position of ice edge on individual latitudes 2-4 months in advance have been calculated. The annual variation of iciness in the Davis Strait, in connection with the general atmospheric circulation and solar activity, is analyzed.
