BEHAVIOR OF THE LOWER PERMAFROST BOUNDARY AS ONE CRITERION IN STRUCTURAL PROSPECTING IN THE NORTHEAST OF THE WEST SIBERIAN PLAIN

Data from drilling operations in the northeast region of the West Siberian Plain are analysed. Description
Summary:Data from drilling operations in the northeast region of the West Siberian Plain are analysed. It is shown that the lower boundary of the permafrost as revealed in boreholes exhibits a regular relationship with the upvaultings or domes of tectonic structures: here the permafrost base markedly rises. It is recommended that this regular association be exploited in local structural exploration of areas in the Far North where there are petroleum prospects.
