Summary: | Marine geophysical research in the Antarctic during the Austral summer of 1960-61 is described. A broad program consisting of terrestrial magnetism, bathymetry, and oceanography was accomplished aboard USS STATEN ISLAND (AGB-5). Oceanographic observations were obtained from USS EDISTO (AGB-2), and supplementary observations were obtained from USS GLACIER (AGB-4), USCGC EASTWIND (WAGB-279), and USS WILHOITE (DER-397). In addition, the project entitled Shore-Based Seasonal Oceanographic Studies at McMurdo Sound was completed. (Author) |
