Flagellate Grazing in Lakes Hoare and Fryxell

In conjunction with the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) project in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica, lakes were monitored for microzooplankton by a team based out of the University of Nottingham (led by Johanna Laybourn-Parry). This dataset shows grazing rates of heterotrophic and mixotrop...

Lake Fryxell has a maximum depth of 20m and is a permanently stratified meromictic lake with a conductivity of 1.2 to 2.0 mS/cm in the upper mixomolimnion and 4.1 to 8.4 mS/cm in the lower anoxic monomolimnion. Water temperatures during the summer range from 0.01 degrees C to 2.7 degrees C, with temperature increasing with depth. The chemocline is situated at 9.5m. In contrast, Lake Hoare is unstratified during the summer and is freshwater. It has a maximum depth of 34m. Summer temperatures in the water column ranged between 0.01 degrees C and 1.0 degrees C. 162 W 163.6 E -77.2 N -77.8 S 1997-11-07 to 1998-01-26 2011-04-21T18:09:50Z text/plain http://hdl.handle.net/10255/dryad.14806 http://metacat.lternet.edu/knb/metacat/knb-lter-mcm.0054.2/xml unknown McMurdo Dry Valleys LTERByrd Polar Research Center 108 Scott Hall1090 Carmack RdColumbusColumbusOH43210-1002USA(614) 292-4697 http://metacat.lternet.edu/knb/metacat/knb-lter-mcm.0054.2/xml knb-lter-mcm.0054.2 http://hdl.handle.net/10255/dryad.14806 MCM LTER data may be used freely with the following restrictions:The Principal Investigator be sent a notice stating reasons for acquiring any data and a description of the publication intentions.
