北米先住民タクリバークリンギット族の土地に根ざす教育

2013年8月、カナダ国ブリティッシュコロンビア州、アトリンに居住する先住民タク・リバー・クリンギット族による、土地に根ざす生き方を次世代に伝えるキャンプに参加した。彼らは狩猟採集民としての知識や技術、文化、自然観などを次世代に伝え、「土地を知る」ことの重要性を共有していた。その中に、環境教育として共有すべき今日的な意義が見いだせるように思われた。例えば、社会、経済、文化、宗教などが分断されずに一体として認識されていること 、自然と深くかかわる人間の基本的な営み、人間が土地の生態や歴史や聖性などを深く知ることでその土地の自然が守られること、また土地への畏敬の感覚などである。今後、彼らの営みと自身の暮らしを相対比較し、私たちは次世代に何を継承していくのかという問いを精緻にし、環境教育の大切な要素や手法を明らかにしていきたい。 This paper reports on a Place and Community based education camp organized and run by the Taku River Tlingit in British Colombia, Canada, in August 2013. The camp emphasized the transfer of knowledge and skills of hunter and gatherer culture to the children. In addition, the learning of traditional culture such as curving and storytelling, as well as how one perceives and relates to “the land" was a central part of their activities. There were many essential ideas that are fully applicable to the environmental education of today and should be shared. For example, they had a very holistic perception of life in which society, economy, culture and religion are not divided. Their fundamental practices of living close to the land leads to that belief through a thorough knowledge of the ecology, the history and the sacredness of the land, as well as the sense of awe toward the land, which will help in its conservation. Through a comparison of their way with our own lives, we can further question and clarify what we will be succeeding to the next generation, as well as realize important elements and methods in the practice of environmental education. 研究ノート・資料(Note) application/pdf departmental bulletin paper
