Summary:The article deals with the structure and main activities of the University of the Arctic established by the Arctic Council. The University of the Arctic is a corporate network of 188 universities, colleges, research institutes and other organizations in 16 countries of the world and their educational and scientific activities are related to the Arctic region. The article analyses the significance of the «Strategic Plan 2020» adopted in 2013 by the University of the Arctic for the development of international Arctic cooperation. Particular attention is paid to the activities of the University in Russia and the characteristics of its thematic networks
